Quad Bike & Buggy Desert Safari

Ride into the Sinai desert by quad or buggy, then stop at a Bedouin tent for sweet tea and the view over the mountains.

Duration
About 3 hours
Category

Area
Sharm El Sheikh

Behind the resorts of Sharm El Sheikh lies a completely different world: the wide valleys and red granite mountains of the Sinai desert. A quad bike or buggy safari is the most exciting way to explore it, and one of the most popular excursions with families, couples and groups of friends.

  1. The ride

After pick-up from your hotel, you reach the safari camp, receive a safety briefing and get comfortable with your quad or buggy. Then your guide leads the convoy along desert tracks, through valleys and past rock formations. Halfway, you stop at a Bedouin tent for sweet tea and a moment to take in the silence and the view over the mountains.

  2. Sunrise, afternoon or sunset?

Morning rides are cooler and the light is soft; afternoon rides finish with the sun dropping behind the mountains — the most photogenic time. In summer we recommend early morning or sunset to avoid the midday heat.

  3. Good to know

No experience is needed. Buggies are a great choice for couples or a parent with a child, as two people sit side by side. Wear closed shoes and sunglasses; a scarf for dust is provided at most camps. Want more? Combine the safari with a camel ride and Bedouin dinner for a full desert evening.

Do I need a driving licence for the quad safari?

No driving licence is usually required for desert quad safaris. The guide gives a full briefing and a short practice before the convoy sets off, and the pace is adapted to the group. Children can usually ride as passengers with an adult; minimum ages for driving depend on the camp.

What is the difference between a quad and a buggy?

A quad is a four-wheeled motorbike for one rider, sometimes with a passenger behind. A buggy is a small open car with a steering wheel and two seats side by side, which many people find easier and more comfortable. Buggies are popular with couples and parents riding with children.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dusty, closed shoes and sunglasses. A scarf or the headscarf provided at the camp protects you from dust. In winter, evenings in the desert get cool, so bring a light jacket for sunset rides. Don’t forget sunscreen and water.

Is the desert safari suitable for children?

Yes, children usually love it. Younger children ride as passengers in a buggy or on a quad with a parent, while older children may drive their own quad depending on the camp’s rules. Tell us the ages of your children and we will choose the best option and time of day for your family.
