Tiran Island Boat Trip — Snorkelling & Diving

Cruise to the Straits of Tiran, where four legendary reefs offer crystal-clear water for snorkelling or a guided introductory dive.

Full day

Area
Sharm El Sheikh

The Straits of Tiran, just north of Sharm El Sheikh, are home to four legendary reefs — Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas and Gordon — set in some of the clearest water of the Red Sea. A boat trip to Tiran is a favourite for snorkellers and divers alike, combining vivid coral gardens with open-sea views of the island’s desert cliffs.

  1. What to expect

After hotel pick-up, you board at Sharm’s marina and sail towards the straits. The crew chooses the best reefs for the day’s conditions and usually stops two or three times for snorkelling. If you would like to try scuba diving, an introductory dive with an instructor can often be arranged on board, no experience needed. Lunch is served on deck, and there is time to sunbathe between stops.

  2. Tips for the day

The currents in the straits can be stronger than in sheltered bays, so the crew briefs every swimmer and chooses calmer spots for beginners. Take a passport copy, reef-safe sunscreen and a towel. Certified divers can join dedicated dive boats to Tiran — ask us and we will match you with a licensed dive centre.

Can beginners snorkel at Tiran Island?

Yes. The crew gives a safety briefing, provides life jackets and chooses sheltered spots when currents are strong. Beginners often snorkel with a guide holding a float ring. If you are nervous in the water, tell us beforehand and we will choose a calmer programme or a boat with fewer guests.

Do I need a diving certificate for the introductory dive?

No. An introductory dive is designed for complete beginners. An instructor explains the equipment and safety rules, then stays with you throughout a shallow dive. You need to be in good health and complete a short medical questionnaire; some conditions require a doctor’s approval.

Which is better: Tiran or Ras Mohammed?

Both are excellent. Tiran is known for its four classic reefs and very clear water in the straits, while Ras Mohammed offers dramatic coral walls, a national park setting and the White Island sandbank. If you have time, do both on different days; otherwise we recommend based on your swimming level and interests.

How long is the Tiran Island trip?

It is a full-day trip. Pick-up is usually in the morning and you return to your hotel in the late afternoon, depending on the boat and sea conditions. The exact times appear in your confirmation, and our team stays in touch on WhatsApp in case anything changes on the day.
